FACILITIES ENGINEER, HVAC & MECHANICAL (STARLINK)

As a Facilities Engineer specializing in HVAC and mechanical systems at our Starlink Production facility, you will be integral to maintaining the safety, reliability, and efficiency of our mechanical infrastructure. Your role will encompass diagnosing, assessing, and enhancing a variety of mechanical systems throughout the site, including HVAC, plumbing, and structural systems. Your technical acumen will propel continuous improvement efforts, support our sustainability objectives, and ensure adherence to safety and environmental standards.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Deliver engineering expertise for the design, operation, enhancement, and troubleshooting of all facility mechanical components and systems, encompassing HVAC, plumbing, and structural systems.
  • Facilitate coordination of downtime activities among maintenance, construction, and production teams to minimize operational interruptions.
  • Lead projects aimed at improving mechanical systems through design change requests and advanced detection techniques.
  • Diagnose mechanical system issues, develop maintenance protocols, establish service schedules, and manage material procurement for machinery upkeep.
  • Draft, negotiate, and oversee construction contracts with subcontractors across various disciplines until project completion.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to design, optimize, and sustain mechanical systems.
  • Provide mechanical engineering support to facility technicians for troubleshooting existing electrical equipment and controllers.
  • Supervise the installation, operation, and maintenance of equipment to meet specified operational parameters.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or a related engineering discipline.
  • 3+ years of professional experience in the design and maintenance of industrial HVAC and plumbing systems.
PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
  • 5+ years of professional experience in designing and maintaining industrial HVAC, plumbing, and mechanical systems.
  • Demonstrated experience in clean-room design and maintenance, highlighting an understanding of stringent environmental control requirements.
  • Proficient in implementing maintenance solutions with minimal impact on operations.
  • Ability to effectively assist technicians with troubleshooting and repair efforts.
  • Capacity to perform in high-pressure environments, with flexibility to work extended hours as necessary.
  • Detail-oriented and proactive in executing preventive maintenance initiatives.
  • Familiarity with AutoCAD/Revit software applications at a beginner to intermediate level.
  • Knowledge of relevant industry codes and standards, such as ASHRAE, NFPA, and International Building Code.
  • Experience in system design, sizing, specification, and installation, particularly for HVAC chillers, pumps, boilers, air handlers, and HEPA filtration systems.
  • In-depth understanding of HVAC operations, especially in managing chilled water plants operated through air-cooled chillers.
  • Experience with advanced data/monitoring systems like Schneider Building Management Systems is preferred.
  • Strong grasp of construction project management principles, including scheduling, budgeting, and contractor management.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • Physical capability to perform hands-on work in various environments, including heat, cold, rain, and confined spaces.
  • Willingness to work extended hours and weekends as needed.
  • Ability to travel occasionally as required by project demands.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Capacity to lift up to 25 lbs. unassisted.
COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:

Pay range:
Mechanical Engineer/Level I: $95,000.00 - $115,000.00 per year
Mechanical Engineer/Level II: $110,000.00 - $130,000.00 per year

Your actual level and base salary will be determined on a case-by-case basis and may vary based on job-related knowledge and skills, education, and experience.

Base salary is just one component of your total rewards package at SpaceX. You may also be eligible for long-term incentives, including company stock, stock options, or long-term cash awards, as well as potential discretionary bonuses and the ability to purchase additional stock at a discount through an Employee Stock Purchase Plan. Comprehensive medical, vision, and dental coverage, access to a 401(k) retirement plan, short and long-term disability insurance, life insurance, paid parental leave, and various other discounts and perks are also included. You may accrue 3 weeks of paid vacation and will be eligible for 10 or more paid holidays per year. Exempt employees are entitled to 5 days of sick leave annually.
