The Insurance Financial Analyst is responsible for applying accounting principles in both STAT and GAAP frameworks to generate financial reports and analyze financial data. This role is crucial for compiling and interpreting financial information, ensuring accurate documentation of business transactions.
Key Responsibilities:
- Utilize a comprehensive understanding of earned, assumed, and ceded premiums to accurately reflect these in financial statements.
- Calculate and submit quarterly Premium Tax obligations to various states.
- Conduct statistical analyses to identify trends and significant changes, providing narrative reports to explain findings.
- Perform variance and ratio analyses, presenting results to senior management.
- Execute detailed reconciliations for cash and intercompany loan accounts, ensuring balance within the accounting system.
- Analyze financial data related to assets, liabilities, and capital, preparing balance sheets and profit and loss statements.
- Audit contracts and transactions, preparing reports to validate individual entries prior to settlement.
- Oversee the proper handling of financial transactions, approving them within designated limits.
- Ensure compliance with GAAP, SAP, and company policies.
- Review and rectify errors in financial entries and reports.
- Implement and document accounting systems and control procedures.
- Propose improvements for the organization’s accounting operations.
- Gather data to prepare federal, state, and local tax reports and returns.
Qualifications:
- A minimum of two years of accounting experience is required.
- At least one year of experience in the insurance sector is necessary.
- Experience with statutory accounting principles is essential.
- One year of GAAP accounting experience is required.
A Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting is mandatory.
Preferred Qualifications:
- LOMA or other relevant insurance industry designations are advantageous.
Technical Skills:
Proficiency in MS Word, Access, PowerPoint, and Outlook is required, with advanced Excel skills being essential. Familiarity with commission reporting software such as APL or Clearwater Analytics is beneficial.
The role is office-based, requiring the ability to access, input, and retrieve information from computer systems while performing data entry tasks.
