Marine Mechanical Technician

As a Marine Mechanical Technician at Talent Source, you will be tasked with executing mechanical upkeep, repair, and installation duties on maritime vessels within a shipyard setting.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform mechanical maintenance and repair operations on marine propulsion systems, including engines, turbines, pumps, valves, and auxiliary machinery.
- Interpret engineering schematics, blueprints, and technical documentation to ascertain maintenance needs, specifications, and procedures.
- Disassemble, evaluate, repair, and reassemble mechanical components and systems, ensuring optimal functionality and alignment.
- Diagnose mechanical problems, troubleshoot malfunctions, and implement corrective measures to restore equipment to operational condition.
- Conduct precision machining tasks, such as turning, milling, drilling, and grinding, to fabricate or repair mechanical parts as necessary.
- Align and adjust mechanical components and systems, including shafts, couplings, bearings, and gears, to guarantee proper operation and performance.
- Test mechanical systems and equipment using diagnostic tools and instruments to confirm functionality and adherence to specifications.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of workspaces, tools, and equipment to ensure a safe and efficient working environment.
- Comply with safety regulations, shipyard policies, and industry best practices to prevent accidents and injuries during mechanical operations.
- Collaborate with engineers, designers, and other tradespeople to support integrated shipyard operations and achieve project goals.
Qualifications:
- Prior experience as a marine mechanical technician or outside machinist in a shipyard or maritime environment.
- Understanding of marine propulsion systems, machinery, and equipment, including diesel engines, turbines, pumps, valves, and hydraulics.
- Expertise in mechanical maintenance and repair methods, including disassembly, inspection, reassembly, and alignment of mechanical components.
- Strong analytical skills and attention to detail in diagnosing and troubleshooting mechanical issues.
- Excellent communication and teamwork abilities, with the capacity to collaborate effectively with colleagues and stakeholders.
- Physical capability to lift and maneuver heavy materials and work in various positions, including standing, kneeling, and bending.
- Valid driver's license and a clean driving record.
- Certification or training in mechanical maintenance or a related field is preferred but not mandatory.
