Role Overview

Key Responsibilities

In this role, you will:

  • Propose innovative solutions to address customer needs.
  • Collaborate with clients to design system architectures, leveraging Viasat's technology assets and partnerships.
  • Define products and systems in the fields of optical communications, radar, and SIGINT applications.
  • Develop algorithms to tackle a variety of communication and radar challenges.
  • Transition algorithms from simulations to practical implementations on DSP/FPGA/GPU platforms.
Daily Activities

You will engage with multidisciplinary teams, including Business Development, Systems, Software, RF circuits, and hardware engineers, to create digital signal processing algorithms and support both new and ongoing space initiatives.

Qualifications
  • 7+ years of experience in applied signal processing.
  • Proven expertise in system architecture definition, design, and integration.
  • Demonstrated success in developing and implementing signal processing solutions for communication and radar systems.
  • Strong foundation in random processes, communication theory, and spectral analysis.
  • Experience collaborating with clients to meet their requirements.
  • Ability to conduct systems-level analysis.
  • Experience in proposal or applications engineering.
  • Capability to derive module/box requirements from overarching system requirements.
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
  • U.S. citizenship is required for this position.
  • Active DoD Secret Clearance with the potential to obtain Top Secret with SSBI/SCI as needed.
  • Willingness to travel up to 10%.
Preferred Qualifications
  • M.S. or Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related discipline.
  • Active Top Secret clearance with SSBI/SCI is highly desirable.
  • Experience with discrete-time simulations in Matlab, C/C++, or Python.
  • Knowledge of RF or networking principles.
  • Familiarity with Space-Time Adaptive Processing (STAP).
  • Experience with AESA/phased array, radar, SIGINT, or electronic warfare.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to develop and present briefings effectively.
  • Hands-on experience with hardware testing or detailed design is advantageous.

Compensation

The salary range for this position is $151,000 to $263,100 annually. At Viasat, we take various factors into account when determining compensation, including the scope of the role and your background. Base pay may vary based on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Additional cash or stock incentives may be part of the compensation package, along with a comprehensive range of medical, financial, and other benefits.
