Regional Optometry Specialist

The Regional Optometry Specialist plays a crucial role in enhancing public safety through the provision of comprehensive medical care that fosters health and supports individuals in managing various health conditions related to optometry diagnoses.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Collaborate closely with a multidisciplinary team, including Physicians, ARNPs, and Physician Assistants, to ensure quality health services are delivered to incarcerated individuals.
2. Serve under the supervision of the Deputy Chief Medical Officer, overseeing the coordination of medical care for offenders across multiple facilities.
3. Develop and implement a systematic approach to healthcare provision, focusing on population-based demand management.
4. Actively engage in the Coordinated Quality Improvement Program (CQIP) to enhance service delivery.
Patient Care:
- Utilize both objective and subjective methods to screen, diagnose, and treat ocular conditions, employing diagnostic instruments and testing.
- Measure visual acuity and general eye function, generating prescriptions for corrective lenses as necessary.
- Conduct thorough clinical examinations to identify pathological conditions affecting the visual system.
- Plan and execute medically necessary prescriptions and evaluations for treatment of eye conditions.
Consultation and Training:
- Work collaboratively with healthcare team members to create comprehensive care plans.
- Assist in developing treatment protocols related to ophthalmological care and participate in policy revisions.
- Facilitate educational programs for staff to maintain and enhance professional knowledge.
Documentation and Compliance:
- Maintain accurate and complete patient care records, documenting all medical interactions using the SOAP format.
- Respond to inquiries from the public and institution staff regarding health care policies and procedures.
- Participate in legal proceedings as necessary, providing expert testimony and documentation.
Qualifications:
- Must hold a valid and unrestricted medical license in the State of Washington.
- A minimum of one year of post-residency experience is required.
- Maintain current CPR certification and complete all mandatory training.
