We are seeking a highly skilled Physician Assistant to join our Cardiac Surgery ICU team at Brigham and Women's Hospital. Key Responsibilities- Provide direct patient care, including assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of patients in the Cardiac Surgery ICU
- Work collaboratively with our Cardiac Surgery team, including surgeons, residents, and other healthcare professionals
- Develop and implement individualized plans of care for patients, taking into account their unique needs and circumstances
- Conduct thorough histories and physical examinations, order and interpret diagnostic tests, and prescribe medications as needed
- Participate in cardiac resuscitation and defibrillation as indicated, and provide education to patients and their families about their cardiac surgical procedure
- Collaborate with our ICU team to expedite discharges and perform complete history and physical examinations on admissions and transfers
- Master's degree in Physician Assistant Studies from an accredited program
- Current certification by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA)
- Current valid license as a Physician Assistant in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts
- Current DEA registration and Massachusetts Controlled Substance Registration
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment with a high level of stress and changing organizational climate
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with patients, families, and healthcare teams
- Ability to maintain a professional attitude and exercise mature, independent problem-solving skills
This position requires the ability to work in a high-stress, dynamic environment with a high level of patient acuity. The Cardiac Surgery ICU is a 24/7 PA-run service, and working weekends and holidays is required. The rotating schedule will include 12-hour days, with a frequency of 3, 3, 4 days per week, averaging 40 hours per week over a three-week cycle.
The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served on their assigned unit. Other duties as assigned.
