Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Public Safety Dispatcher to join our team at the City of Bloomfield Hills. As a Public Safety Dispatcher, you will be responsible for answering administrative phones, 911 phones, and dispatching calls for service via two-way radio.

The ideal candidate will have excellent communication skills, a strong work ethic, and the ability to maintain a calm demeanor in high-energy situations. You will work closely with our team to provide exceptional customer service and ensure the safety of our community.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Answer administrative phones and 911 calls
  • Dispatch calls for service via two-way radio
  • Use computer-aided dispatch and other technologies to accomplish duties
  • Work with our team to provide exceptional customer service
  • Maintain a calm demeanor in high-energy situations

Requirements:

  • Good work history
  • Accredited high school or GED diploma
  • Must be 18 years of age at the time of application
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or possess a current permanent resident card
  • Must not have been convicted of a felony
  • Must not have received a dishonorable discharge from the United States Armed Forces
  • Knowledge of Bloomfield Hills and Oakland County geography is helpful
  • Must be able to work various shifts with rotating days off, as well as weekends and holidays
  • Must be able to speak and understand English
  • Must be computer literate
  • Must have good typing skills (approximately 30wpm)
  • Must pass a pre-employment physical and psychological exam

Preferred Qualifications:

  • One (1) to two (2) years of college, military, or related experience and/or training preferred

Training and Development:

Candidates hired as Public Safety Dispatchers will complete the Bloomfield Hills DPS Communications Training Program and the State of Michigan's required training for 911 operators.

Work Environment:

Work is performed in an office environment with multiple computer monitors. The noise level in the work environment is often quiet but can moderate. Depending on the assignment, the employee may be required to work holiday, evening, midnight, and/or weekend shifts. Shift times may vary.
