Job Overview

Summary

Role Objective
Under the guidance of the Director of Early Childhood Education and the Supervisor of Special Education, the aim is to enhance the educational experience of students in academic subjects, social skills, and daily living activities by applying the district's approved curriculum. This includes documenting instructional methods and student progress, addressing individual student needs, and ensuring a secure and conducive learning atmosphere.

Key Responsibilities

Role Objectives
To achieve the aforementioned aims, the following duties are essential:

  • Act as a preschool integrated classroom educator, delivering daily lessons.
  • Engage in Planning and Placement Team (PPT) meetings and contribute to the creation of Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) for students.
  • Support students and educational staff in executing IEPs and behavior management strategies.
  • Participate in transition activities from Pre-Kindergarten to Kindergarten.
  • Serve as a resource for students and parents, providing guidance that fosters personal development, self-awareness, and behavioral management; act as a bridge between home and school.
  • Continuously enhance professional knowledge by attending workshops, seminars, or professional gatherings, and by maintaining connections with higher education institutions and the business sector.
  • Establish and uphold a systematic approach for accurate record-keeping and providing student information to prospective educational institutions and employers, in accordance with district policies and legal requirements.
  • Encourage parental engagement in the educational process and ensure effective communication with students and their families.
  • Assist in orienting new educators and offer in-service training in guidance.
  • Select and request suitable educational materials and maintain inventory records.

Additional Responsibilities
Perform other related tasks as assigned by the Principal and designated central office administrators.

Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities
Possess a solid understanding of Special Education principles, theories, testing, and methodologies, along with effective strategies for enhancing the educational experience of students with special needs.

  • Familiarity with differentiated instruction tailored to diverse learning styles.
  • Knowledge of data management systems, data analysis, and action plan development.
  • Awareness of relevant federal and state education laws.
  • Ability to navigate computer networks and software applications as required.
  • Capacity to organize and coordinate tasks efficiently.
  • Effective communication skills with students and parents.
  • Engagement in self-assessment regarding performance and professional development.
  • Aptitude for establishing and maintaining collaborative working relationships.

Physical and Mental Demands
Work in standard office and educational environments.

Qualifications

Certification/License:
State Certification as a Special Education Teacher/General Education Teacher.

Education:
A Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in a relevant educational discipline, along with a Master's degree in Special Education.

Experience:
Prior successful experience in special education teaching at the appropriate grade level is preferred.
