The Software Development division is responsible for creating software applications that integrate and test various defense systems, including missiles, radars, and naval technologies. Our team of over 4,000 skilled software engineers is dedicated to designing and implementing cutting-edge solutions for our clients. The Principal Software Engineer in our Advanced Technology sector will act as the Product Owner for a team focused on developing advanced flight software capabilities for critical missile programs. This role requires a seasoned expert in real-time embedded software development with a proven history of successfully leading flight software design and development initiatives.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage all aspects of cost, scheduling, planning, and execution for software engineering tasks within the Mission Software Product team.
- Conduct Estimate at Completion Reviews (EACs), develop agile backlogs, and provide staffing projections and performance metrics.
- Serve as the primary interface between software engineering and stakeholders, including customers and program management.
- Lead the team through all phases of software development and testing to ensure timely delivery of software builds.
- Foster a culture of continuous improvement in processes, tools, and team dynamics.
- Collaborate closely with the Chief Product Owner, other Product Owners, Software Architects, and Chief Engineers.
- Develop a high-performing team capable of delivering embedded real-time tactical flight software with integrated firmware capabilities.
- Identify and implement best practices and lessons learned to enhance team performance.
- Represent the software engineering team in technical discussions with customers.
- Utilize agile methodologies, automation, and continuous integration in software development.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in a STEM field and a minimum of 8 years of experience in embedded software engineering.
- Proven experience in developing, integrating, and testing real-time embedded C++ software with a Real-Time Operating System (RTOS).
- Demonstrated leadership in software team management, including planning and execution.
- Possession of an active U.S. government issued Secret security clearance is required.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with agile/scrum methodologies and DevOps practices.
- Background in integrating embedded radar signal processing software for defense applications.
- Expertise in designing real-time embedded software on multi-core systems.
- Familiarity with scripting languages such as Python or MATLAB.
- Experience with Earned Value Management Systems (EVMS) or as a Cost Account Manager (CAM).
