Classification: EXEMPT

General Summary

The Culinary Service Associate plays a vital role in the food preparation and service process, ensuring compliance with all necessary Federal and State regulations associated with the CACFP (Child and Adult Care Food Program). This position is responsible for maintaining cleanliness and sanitation in food service areas.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Assist in the preparation of diverse food items, including meats, main courses, baked goods, and sandwiches, adhering to CACFP guidelines.

2. Set up serving stations and steam tables, delivering meals to students and staff in a timely and appealing manner.

3. Conduct inventory counts of trays, milk, and other food items as assigned.

4. Document point-of-service details for each meal, engaging with students during service.

5. Maintain a clean and sanitary work environment, including classrooms and kitchen areas; perform cleaning tasks such as washing tables, utensils, and equipment.

6. Execute cashiering duties as required.

7. Ensure kitchen areas are organized and sanitized, including counters, floors, and refrigerators.

8. Conduct weekly inventories to track food stock levels and ensure freshness of items.

9. Monitor food temperatures to comply with safety guidelines, maintaining logs as necessary.

10. Clean and sanitize all serving dishes and kitchen surfaces after each meal.

11. Prepare activity reports detailing work performed during shifts for supervisor approval.

12. Operate standard kitchen equipment such as ovens and mixers, and perform related tasks as assigned.

13. Support teaching staff with classroom activities as needed, demonstrating a commitment to child care and education.

Knowledge and Skills Required:

  • Understanding of sanitation and safety practices in food handling.
  • Familiarity with kitchen equipment and food preparation methods.
  • Basic math skills and knowledge of Federal Food Program guidelines.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, demonstrating patience and courtesy.

Additional Characteristics:

  • Able to work effectively amidst interruptions.
  • Capable of meeting deadlines and following instructions.
  • Ability to collaborate with team members.
  • Proficient in operating various kitchen appliances.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of a High School Diploma; additional college coursework or an AA degree is preferred.
  • Effective communication skills in English, both written and verbal.
  • Experience and training that demonstrate the required knowledge and abilities.
  • Food Handler's Certificate is required.

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to lift and move boxes weighing 25-50 lbs.
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, and perform various physical tasks.
  • Work environment includes kitchen and cafeteria settings, requiring standing for extended periods.

Work Hours: Average of 6-8 hours per day.

Compensation: Starting at $15 per hour.
