Job Summary: We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated School Nurse to join our team at Marion P. Thomas Charter School. The successful candidate will serve as the primary advocate for the health and well-being of students and staff, providing essential health services and support.

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct health screenings and services, including emergency first aid and care for students and staff who are ill or injured.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date health records for all students, in accordance with New Jersey State Law.
  • Assume responsibility for the selection and referral of students in need of medical and dental care, and report to parents, school personnel, physicians, clinics, and other agencies on school medical matters.
  • Administer first aid in accordance with established procedures, and visit student homes when necessary.
  • Teach health classes and coordinate with specialty area teachers to ensure a comprehensive curriculum.
  • Prepare and submit reports to the Principal and the State Board of Health, and implement policy on exclusion and re-admission of students with infectious and contagious diseases.
  • Participate in committee meetings and conferences regarding health services and health curriculum, and conduct registration of all new students and determine their eligibility for enrollment in accordance with State health regulations.
  • Maintain familiarity with current trends and practices in the field of school health, and continuously improve professional competence through in-service programs, performance evaluations, and professional improvement plans.

Requirements:

  • A valid NJDOE School Nurse Certificate #3000 or a valid NJDOE School Nurse-Non Instructional Certificate #3010.
  • A valid, current New Jersey RN License, or eligibility for an Emergency Certification with documented proof of enrollment in a qualified program to obtain the required courses necessary for the issuance of a Standard School Nurse-Non Instructional Certificate within 3 years from the date of hire.
  • A current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and Automated External Defibrillators (AED) certification as issued by the American Heart Association, the American Red Cross, the National Safety Council, or other entities determined by the Department of Health to comply with the American Heart Association's CPR guidelines.

Salary and Benefits: The salary range for this position is $63,414 - $89,264 (BA) or $64,664 - $90,514 (MA), with a 10.5-month term of employment. The position is part of the MPTEA union.
