Job Title: School Nurse

Marion P. Thomas Charter School is seeking a highly skilled and dedicated School Nurse to join our team.

Job Summary:

The School Nurse will serve as the primary advocate for the health and well-being of students and staff within the school. Responsibilities include health screening and services, emergency first aid, the care of those who are ill and/or injured while in the school, maintenance of health records, and instruction in sound health practices.

Responsibilities:
  • Conduct health services as mandated by Board policy and New Jersey School Law
  • Assume responsibility for selection and referral of students in need of medical and dental care
  • Report to parents, school personnel, physicians, clinics, and other agencies on school medical matters
  • Maintain up-to-date cumulative health records on all students in accordance with New Jersey State Law
  • Assume authority, in the absence of a physician, for the care of a student or staff member who has suffered injury or emergency illness
  • Teach health classes and coordinate with specialty area teachers' appropriate curriculum
  • Prepare and submit reports to the Principal and the State Board of Health
  • Implement policy on exclusion and re-admission of students in connection with infectious and contagious diseases
  • Participate in committee meetings and conferences regarding health service and health curriculum
  • Conduct registration of all new students and determine their eligibility for enrollment in accordance with State health regulations
  • Maintain familiarity with current trends and practices in the field of school health and continuously improve professional competence through in-service programs, performance evaluations, and professional improvement plans
Requirements:
  • Valid NJDOE School Nurse Certificate #3000 or a valid NJDOE School Nurse-Non Instructional Certificate #3010
  • Hold a valid, current New Jersey RN License; if an RN is eligible for an Emergency Certification, the candidate must provide documented proof of enrollment in a qualified program to obtain the required courses necessary for the issuance of a Standard School Nurse-Non Instructional Certificate within 3 years from the date of hire
  • Hold a current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and Automated External Defibrillators (AED) certification as issued by the American Heart Association, the American Red Cross, the National Safety Council, or other entities determined by the Department of Health to comply with the American Heart Association's CPR guidelines
