Deputy Sheriff Law Enforcement Officer

Allegan County is seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Deputy Sheriff to join our team. As a Deputy Sheriff, you will play a critical role in maintaining public safety and enforcing laws within our county.

The Deputy Sheriff will be responsible for enforcing local, state, and federal laws, conducting proactive patrols, and responding to emergency situations. This includes investigating crimes, gathering evidence, and testifying in court proceedings.

• Perform security patrols, traffic control, detection, investigation, and arrest of persons involved in crimes or misconduct.
• Respond to emergency radio calls and investigate all types of incidents.
• Investigate and render assistance at the scene of vehicular accidents, summoning ambulances and other law enforcement vehicles as needed.
• Conduct follow-up investigations of crimes, develop leads and tips, and carefully search scenes of crimes for clues.
• Prepare a variety of reports and records, including incident reports, arrest reports, and other documentation.
• Undertake community-oriented road work, assist citizens with matters such as motorist assists, crime prevention, drug education, traffic safety, and other related activities.
• Coordinate activities with other deputies or County departments as needed, exchange information with officers in other law enforcement agencies, and obtain advice from the County Prosecuting Attorney regarding policies and procedures.
• Maintain contact with Law Enforcement supervisory personnel to coordinate investigation activities, provide mutual assistance during emergency situations, and provide general information about Law Enforcement division activities.
• Maintain departmental equipment, supplies, and facilities, and be accountable for the same.
• Serve as a member of various committees under the direction of the Sheriff.

• Minimum of a two-year college degree in correctional sciences, law enforcement, criminal justice administration, public administration, or a closely related field is preferred.
• Michigan Commission on Law Enforcement Standards (MCOLES) Certified.
• Certified in the following: Firearms qualification, CPR, First Aid, Blood Borne Pathogens, LEIN certification, Emergency Vehicle Operations, Defensive Tactics, Unified Incident Command Training, Data Master, Radar, and Standard Field Sobriety Testing.
• Possess a Valid Michigan Driver's License.
