Deputy Sheriff Job Summary

Allegan County is seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Deputy Sheriff to join our team. As a Deputy Sheriff, you will be responsible for enforcing local, state, and federal laws, conducting proactive patrols to ensure personal safety and property security, and serving as the first responder to crime scenes and accidents.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Enforce laws and conduct patrols to ensure public safety and property security
  • Respond to emergency calls and investigate incidents
  • Investigate and render assistance at accident scenes, summoning ambulances and other law enforcement vehicles as needed
  • Conduct follow-up investigations, develop leads, and analyze evidence to apprehend offenders
  • Prepare reports and records, and testify in court proceedings as required
  • Participate in community-oriented policing initiatives, such as motorist assists, crime prevention, and traffic safety
  • Coordinate activities with other deputies and County departments, exchanging information and obtaining advice from the County Prosecuting Attorney as needed
Requirements:
  • Minimum of a two-year college degree in correctional sciences, law enforcement, or a closely related field
  • Michigan Commission on Law Enforcement Standards (MCOLES) certification
  • Certification in firearms qualification, CPR, First Aid, Blood Borne Pathogens, LEIN, Emergency Vehicle Operations, Defensive Tactics, Unified Incident Command Training, Data Master, Radar, and Standard Field Sobriety Testing
  • Valid Michigan Driver's License
Benefits:
  • Competitive salary range: $27.55 - $28.83 per hour to start, based on experience
  • Full-time position with an 84-hour per two-week pay period
