Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Maintenance Assistant to join our team at the New York State Office of Mental Health. As a Maintenance Assistant, you will perform a variety of semi-skilled maintenance, repair, installation, and construction tasks in one or more of the trades, including carpentry, painting, minor electrical, masonry/tilework, and flooring.

Responsibilities
  • Perform a variety of semi-skilled maintenance, repair, installation, and construction tasks in one or more of the trades.
  • Work under the direction of a field supervisor and follow written and verbal instructions.
  • Possess working knowledge of methods, materials, tools, and equipment used in trades to which assigned.
  • Perform moderate to heavy manual labor.
  • May climb ladders and work at heights on scaffolds and platforms, and in confined spaces.
  • Demonstrate the ability to adhere to OSHA safety standards.
  • Travel within assigned region to multiple OMH facilities.
Requirements
  • Two years of full-time experience in maintenance or mechanical work under the supervision of a skilled tradesperson; OR completion of an appropriate two-year technical school course at a school, institute, or branch of the Armed Services.
  • Possession of a valid New York State driver's license is preferred, but not required.
