Job Title: Maintenance Assistant

We are seeking a skilled Maintenance Assistant to join our team at the New York State Office of Mental Health. As a Maintenance Assistant, you will be responsible for performing a variety of semi-skilled maintenance, repair, installation, and construction tasks in one or more of the trades, including carpentry, painting, minor electrical, masonry/tilework, and flooring.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Perform maintenance and repair tasks in a variety of trades, including carpentry, painting, and electrical work.
  • Work under the direction of a field supervisor and follow written and verbal instructions.
  • Possess working knowledge of methods, materials, tools, and equipment used in trades to which assigned.
  • Perform moderate to heavy manual labor, including climbing ladders and working at heights on scaffolds and platforms, and in confined spaces.
  • Travel within assigned region to multiple OMH facilities.
Requirements:
  • Two years of full-time experience in maintenance or mechanical work under the supervision of a skilled tradesperson.
  • Completion of an appropriate two-year technical school course at a school, institute, or branch of the Armed Services.
  • Equivalent combination of experience and training gained by completion of appropriate technical courses at a school, institute, or branch of the Armed Services.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Possession of a valid New York State driver's license.
Work Environment:

The Maintenance Assistant will work in a fast-paced environment, performing a variety of tasks in a variety of settings. The position requires the ability to work independently and as part of a team, and to adapt to changing priorities and deadlines.
