Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Manufacturing Engineer to focus on the manufacturing and optimization of glass components processed through similar means as optical fiber draw.

Main Responsibilities:
  • Optimize manufacturing processes and implement cost reduction opportunities.
  • Diagnostics and troubleshooting of process and equipment issues.
  • Collaboration with area engineering technicians and maintenance teams to ensure optimal equipment operation.
  • Training and assistance for bargaining unit employees to improve work processes and product quality.
  • Minimization or elimination of safety, quality, delivery, inventory, and productivity problems.
  • Assistance with new glass composition development and testing.
  • Primary engineering oversight of Fiber Draw/Boule fabrication, bevel, and polish.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in Chemical, Materials, Glass, Ceramic Engineering, or equivalent.
  • A minimum of 5+ years of technical experience.
  • Ability to obtain Security Clearance.
  • Proficiency in statistical analysis techniques.
  • Effective communication and documentation skills.
  • Basic MS Office skills, including Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
Preferred Skills:
  • Proficiency with designing structured experimentation.
  • Ability to handle multiple high-priority projects.
  • Experience with glass fiber drawing (optical or other).
  • Knowledge of fundamental glass properties.
  • Familiarity with vacuum systems/ovens, grinding/polishing operations, and component cleaning processes.
  • Six Sigma certification and application of DMAIC and advanced statistical tools.
  • Proficiency with statistical analysis software, such as JMP and Minitab.
Estimated Salary Range:

$110,000 - $140,000 per year, depending on experience and qualifications.
