Job Summary

The Folger Shakespeare Library is seeking a skilled Lighting Technician to join our dynamic Production team for the 2024/25 season productions. As a key member of our technical staff, you will be responsible for assisting the Production Manager/Technical Director, Assistant Technical Director, and Master Electrician in the programming of the light board, running the light board during technical rehearsals and productions, and maintaining lighting equipment in the Folger Shakespeare Library.

Key Responsibilities
  • Program light cues as directed and maintain design integrity through daily checks and maintenance of the lighting system.
  • Communicate clearly with the Production Manager/Technical Director, ATD, Master Electrician, Stage Manager, and Lighting Designer.
  • Provide support to Production Manager/Technical Director and ATD with regard to lighting equipment, assist the Master Electrician in tracking equipment and supply inventory and condition, and ensure equipment is properly stored and protected.
  • May serve as member of run crew as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
  • Must have 2+ years of technical theater experience in production, including running crews.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of theatrical lighting technologies, processes, and equipment is required.
  • Must have previous experience in lighting design, light hang and focus, and lighting maintenance; basic technical craft skills; and production communication practices.
  • Knowledge of ETC consoles required.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks and elements and work with a variety of people.
  • Proven ability to problem-solve and take initiative is required.
  • Must have strong organization, communication, and multi-tasking skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment is necessary.
Physical Requirements

This job operates in a professional theatre environment, and the employee may be exposed to various components of a theatrical environment such as florescent lighting, low light environment, pollen, dust, recycled air, cooling fans, semi-enclosed areas, central heating, seasonal warmer temperatures, and office noise.

  • This position is highly mobile. Candidates are required to have the ability to be on feet for extended periods, regularly use stairs, ladders, and a genie; bend, kneel, climb, stoop, push, pull, and lift up to 60 pounds.
  • Candidates must also have the capacity to communicate, in person, or using video, phone, or electronic communication methods, in a manner which can be understood by others.
