Inova Health System is seeking a skilled Mental Health Support Specialist to join our Emergency Department team in the EmPATH (Emergency Psychiatric Assessment Treatment and Healing) program under Behavioral Health.
The successful candidate will assist in delivering direct patient care under the supervision of a Registered Nurse, collaborating with the care team to implement a plan of care that meets individualized and developmental patient care outcomes.
Key Responsibilities- Monitor patients' environments and intervene appropriately to promote a safe and therapeutic milieu.
- Identify own learning needs and goals based on timely self-evaluation.
- Reinforce transition and discharge teaching, as well as home care skills.
- Participate actively in quality improvement initiatives and report variances in practice in accordance with Inova Health System policies and procedures.
- Demonstrate competency in all required clinical skills and technologies, sharps maintenance, search and disposition of patient belongings, de-escalation, and crisis prevention.
- Provide basic activities of daily living nursing care while monitoring activity, sleep, and intake/output.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- High School or GED
- Mental health/behavioral health experience preferred
- Basic Life Support (BLS) - American Heart Association certification upon start
