Job Overview

POSITION SUMMARY: The Phlebotomist, under the guidance and continuous oversight of the Clinical Operations Manager and the Principal Investigator, is responsible for performing phlebotomy procedures on patients participating in research studies, adhering to established laboratory protocols.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: The following duties are essential to the role. Additional responsibilities may be assigned:

  1. Adhere to all organizational policies, procedures, and ethical standards.
  2. Maintain strict confidentiality and compliance with all regulatory standards.
  3. Collect specimens according to schedule, recognizing the critical nature of timing for specific tests; follow established Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for laboratory specimens.
  4. Document and label all collected blood samples accurately, including initialing, dating, and recording the time of collection on laboratory requisition forms and specimen tubes.
  5. Comply with all laboratory safety protocols and report any potential hazards to the Clinical Operations Manager.
  6. Efficiently manage incoming supplies and ensure proper processing.
  7. Keep the phlebotomy area organized, clean, and well-stocked with necessary supplies.
  8. Ensure blood drawing trays are maintained in a tidy and accessible manner.
  9. Follow universal precautions and safety measures for biohazard and sharps handling.
  10. Assist with additional tasks such as data collection, filing, billing, and supporting technologists as needed.
  11. Fulfill all requirements and deadlines outlined in study protocols.

QUALIFICATIONS: To excel in this position, candidates must demonstrate the ability to perform each essential duty effectively. The qualifications listed below are indicative of the knowledge, skills, and abilities required. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  1. Completion of an accredited phlebotomy certification program is required.
  2. A minimum of 2 years of experience in phlebotomy is required.
  3. Demonstrated ability to engage positively with diverse patient populations involved in research.
  4. Exceptional attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
  5. Excellent verbal and written communication abilities.
  6. Strong customer service skills with both internal and external stakeholders.
  7. Proven capability to manage multiple tasks in a dynamic environment.

CERTIFICATIONS: A valid CPT I licensure is required.

This position is temporary.
