Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled Wireless Communications Research Engineer to join our team at the Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory (APL). As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for conducting research and development activities in support of Cyber Operations, Special Operations, and Homeland Protection Mission Areas.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct wireless communication systems engineering research activities to support mission objectives
  • Develop innovative solutions for military and government sponsors
  • Apply problem-solving and analysis skills to areas related to telecommunications, remote sensing, and anomaly detection
  • Lead the research and development of novel signal processing approaches
  • Document work in formal technical reports and present findings to sponsors and the technical community
  • Support testing of prototype and operational systems
Requirements
  • Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field
  • At least one year of relevant experience in wireless communications engineering
  • Strong teamwork and interpersonal skills, with effective oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and travel within the continental United States
  • Ability to obtain an Interim Top Secret level security clearance by start date and ultimately obtain a Top Secret level clearance
Preferred Qualifications
  • At least five years of experience in commercial and/or government Wireless Communications Engineering
  • Hands-on experience in implementation languages such as MATLAB, Python, C++/C, PyTorch, and TensorFlow
  • Recent knowledge of DoD and/or intelligence community sponsors and programs
  • Active Top Secret clearance or higher
