Wireless Communications Research Engineer

We are seeking a highly skilled Wireless Communications Research Engineer to join our team at the Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory (APL). As a key member of our research team, you will be responsible for conducting cutting-edge research and development in wireless communications systems engineering.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Conduct research and development in wireless communication systems engineering to support Cyber Operations, Special Operations, and Homeland Protection Mission Areas.
  • Develop innovative solutions for military and government sponsors using advanced signal processing, data processing, and machine learning techniques.
  • Lead the research and development of novel signal processing approaches and develop software prototypes.
  • Document work in formal technical reports and present findings to sponsors and the technical community.
  • Support testing of prototype and operational systems and work closely with sponsors to ensure mission success.
Qualifications:
  • Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field.
  • At least one year of relevant experience in wireless communications engineering.
  • Strong teamwork and interpersonal skills, with effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and travel within the continental United States.
  • Ability to obtain an Interim Top Secret level security clearance by start date and ultimately obtain a Top Secret level clearance.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • At least five years of experience in commercial and/or government Wireless Communications Engineering.
  • Hands-on experience in implementation languages such as MATLAB, Python, C++/C, PyTorch, and TensorFlow.
  • Recent knowledge of DoD and/or intelligence community sponsors and programs.
  • Active Top Secret clearance or higher.
