Diagnostic Radiologic Technologist

Job Summary

Operate radiologic equipment to produce high-quality radiographs (x-rays) of the human body for diagnostic purposes, as directed by the Radiologist. Move x-ray equipment into specified positions and adjust equipment controls to set exposure factors. Explain procedures to patients to reduce anxiety and obtain patient cooperation. Monitor accessory equipment and assist the physician with special radiographic procedures.

Responsibilities
  1. Demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to assist in providing care appropriate to the age of the patient served (Neonate to Geriatric) within the department.
  2. Maintain performance in compliance with State and Federal laws, consistent with high standards of business and professional ethics. Follow Policies and Procedures of Hospital and Department.
  3. Practice radiation protection techniques to minimize radiation to patient and staff. Practice good Quality Control.
  4. Assist department in developing new protocols and imaging techniques (digital imaging, PACS) for use in diagnostic radiology. Able to assist with clerical duties of the department. Computer literacy attainable.
  5. Match appropriate paperwork for interpretation. Change radiographic procedures, able to modify orders. Understands and uses PACS systems. Conduct scheduling and coordination of patient flow for work area or shift.
  6. Provide education and training to affiliated radiology technology student programs.
  7. Assist with patient transportation as necessary.
  8. Maintain effective communication with all levels of supervision and staff.
Requirements

Associate or Bachelor's Degree from an ARRT approved/accredited program in Radiologic Technology or Limited Radiologic Technology. Valid, current State of Iowa Permit to Practice and ARRT certification or registry eligible. Hospital-based experience preferred.
