Job Summary

The School Custodian plays a vital role in maintaining a clean, safe, and organized environment for students, staff, and faculty at Our Lady of Grace Catholic School. This position requires a detail-oriented individual who can work independently and as part of a team to ensure the school's facilities are well-maintained.

Key Responsibilities
  • Facilities Maintenance: Clean and disinfect classrooms, hallways, bathrooms, and other areas of the school on a daily basis.
  • Trash Removal: Remove trash from offices, eating areas, and other designated spaces on a daily basis.
  • Special Events: Assist with setup and cleanup for meetings and special events.
  • Security: Maintain the security of issued keys, secure buildings, turn off lights, and set thermostats.
  • Communication: Communicate maintenance and repair issues to the principal and collaborate with others to enhance the work environment.
Requirements
  • Knowledge and Skills: Knowledge of basic teachings of the Catholic Church, ability to work independently, ability to work well with others, ability to work in a fast-paced environment, and skill in critical thinking and planning.
  • Working Conditions: Required to work some nights and weekends, manage high to moderate levels of stress, work a minimum of a full school day, and work in standard work conditions.
  • Mental and Physical Demands: Required to lift or carry furniture, equipment, and supplies, maintain composure and avoid inappropriate displays of anger, perform strenuous walking, stooping, bending, pulling, and pushing, climbing, twisting, grasping, and reaching overhead, and work with chemicals, exposure to dust, and slippery and uneven walking surfaces.
Qualifications
  1. High school diploma or equivalent, preferred.
  2. Experience with past custodial work or building maintenance preferred but not required.
