Job Summary

We are seeking a dynamic and experienced leader to serve as the Chair of the Department of Couple and Family Therapy at Adler University. The successful candidate will have a strong background in administration, teaching, and clinical experience, as well as a commitment to social justice and diversity.

Key Responsibilities
  • Department Leadership: Provide strategic direction and vision for the Department of Couple and Family Therapy, aligning with the University's mission and strategic plan.
  • Academic Program Development: Develop and implement new academic initiatives, support the implementation of existing programs, and facilitate the approval of new courses and programs.
  • Accreditation and Certification: Lead the re-accreditation and maintenance of COAMFTE accreditation and AASECT renewal, ensuring compliance with accreditation standards.
  • Faculty Support: Provide leadership and support to full-time faculty members, including evaluating their performance, providing feedback, and developing annual load forms and professional goals.
  • Student Learning Outcomes: Facilitate the implementation and assessment of student learning outcomes, ensuring that programs meet the University's standards.
  • Clinical Training: Oversee the Clinical Training Director, supporting them in managing the clinical training components of both degrees and the internship of the PhD.
  • Departmental Operations: Manage the departmental budget, monitor and approve expenditures, and develop and maintain timelines for accreditation and certification cycles.
Requirements
  • Doctoral Degree: A doctoral-level degree from a COAMFTE-accredited program.
  • Administration Experience: Significant experience in administration/management in post-secondary education.
  • Teaching and Clinical Experience: A strong record of clinical experience, graduate-level teaching, scholarship, and clinical training.
  • Academic Rank: Academic rank of Associate (three years or more) or Full Professor.
  • COAMFTE Accreditation: Knowledge of and experience with the COAMFTE-accreditation process.
  • Commitment to Social Justice: Commitment to social justice, self-of-the-therapist, and experiential learning, including the focused competency to work with marginalized and underserved populations.
  • Communication and Conflict Resolution: Excellent communication and conflict resolution skills to resolve problems, build consensus and trust, and reconcile competing interests.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Program Director Experience: Experience as a Program Director, Clinical Training Director, or Accreditation Specialist (or equivalent).
  • Accreditation Experience: Experience with the accreditation process (Self-Study, Site Visit, and response) and/or as a COAMFTE Site Visitor.
  • AASECT Certification: An AASECT Certification (or interest or eligibility) as a Sex Therapist.
