Job Summary

As a Surgical Technologist at the University of Maryland Medical System, you will play a vital role in delivering high-quality patient care in the Birthing Center. Under the supervision of a Registered Nurse, you will assist in the delivery of age-specific patient care, support patients with activities of daily living, and provide basic nursing care. Your attention to detail and ability to maintain a safe and clean environment will be essential in promoting the efficiency of the nursing team.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist in the preparation of the operating room to receive patients, ensuring that all necessary equipment and supplies are available.
  • Anticipate the needs of the surgeon during surgical procedures, maintaining aseptic technique and adhering to established standards.
  • Support the nursing team in delivering physical care and hygiene as needed, interacting therapeutically with patients, and participating in the therapeutic milieu.
  • Communicate effectively with patients, families, and healthcare team members, promoting patient satisfaction and providing support to peers and staff.
  • Contribute to quality improvement processes and cost control measures, seeking opportunities for professional growth and development.
Requirements
  • High School diploma or equivalent, with successful completion of a Nursing Assistant training program.
  • Meets requirements to practice as a Certified Nursing Assistant in the State of Maryland.
  • Graduate of an accredited Surgical Technology program or a minimum of two years acute care experience.
  • Surgical Technologist Certification preferred, with excellent verbal communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
