Position Overview:
In a designated Service Area and/or medical center, this role is responsible for overseeing and guiding the strategic planning, development, execution, and assessment of high-quality patient care across various departments within one or two service lines. These service lines may encompass a blend of medical/surgical, critical care, maternal-child health, pediatric, and perioperative services. The position ensures that service delivery aligns with nursing standards, organizational objectives, and performance metrics.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Leads and manages the provision of nursing services and safe patient care through department managers and staff, ensuring alignment with business objectives and adherence to cost, quality, clinical, and utilization standards.
  • Ensures that services effectively meet the needs of members, physicians, and internal clients within a dynamic healthcare environment.
  • Accountable for the efficient delivery of patient care and support services, directing the development and implementation of safe, cost-effective, and high-quality nursing practices.
  • Collaborates with Kaiser Foundation Hospitals and SCPMG staff to formulate strategic and business plans aimed at achieving integrated services across multiple sites and departments.
  • Oversees the continuous quality and safety of staff and patients, driving improvements in clinical practices, services, and operations through the design and implementation of evaluation systems and processes.
  • Plans and directs the execution of service area initiatives within the service line, sharing best practices and care standards.
  • Delegates responsibilities to managers to ensure appropriate service delivery and levels.
  • Manages budgetary considerations and resource allocation.
  • Monitors financial performance, identifying and implementing strategies to enhance quality and safety while reducing costs.
  • Addresses human resource issues, labor relations, employee safety, and risk management concerns.
  • Responsible for hiring, disciplinary actions, and performance management.
  • Ensures compliance with administrative, legal, and regulatory standards set by governmental and regulatory bodies.
  • May assume the responsibilities of the Nurse Executive in their absence.
Qualifications:
  • Experience: A minimum of eight (8) years in acute healthcare nursing, including at least four (4) years in progressive management and supervisory roles.
  • Education: Master’s Degree in a relevant field (nursing, health administration, business, public health, or management) and an academic degree in nursing (Bachelor’s or Master’s).
Licenses and Certifications:
  • Registered Nurse License (California)
  • Basic Life Support Certification
Additional Requirements:
  • Proven knowledge of healthcare operations and management, including the Nurse Practice Act and relevant regulations.
  • Ability to function effectively in a Labor/Management Partnership environment.
