Substance Abuse Counselor

Volunteers of America-Greater New York (VOA-Greater New York) is a leading anti-poverty organization dedicated to ending homelessness in the New York area by 2050. We operate over 60 programs across New York City, Northern New Jersey, and Westchester County, providing emergency, transitional, and permanent housing services to individuals and families in need.

We are seeking a skilled Substance Abuse Counselor to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor's degree in a related field and certification as a Certified Substance Abuse Counselor (CSAC). The Counselor will provide direct counseling, guidance, and case management services to clients with specific substance abuse problems.

The Counselor will participate in the delivery of services to all clients as needed and maintain linkages with community treatment providers. The ideal candidate will have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with diverse populations.

Key Responsibilities:


  1. Provide individual and group counseling sessions to clients with substance abuse problems.
  2. Develop and implement individualized service plans to address client needs.
  3. Maintain accurate and comprehensive client records.
  4. Collaborate with community treatment providers to ensure seamless service delivery.
