Position Overview
The role of a classroom educator encompasses two distinct salary classifications: Range 1 and Range 2. The primary responsibility of the classroom educator is to design, prepare, and deliver educational programs aimed at achieving defined student learning outcomes. This position requires ongoing reflection and inquiry to enhance teaching practices and effectively engage students in their learning journey.
As educators gain experience, their contributions to the school's educational framework beyond the classroom will expand. All classroom educators may be tasked with additional responsibilities beyond their scheduled teaching duties, provided these tasks align with their salary classification, qualifications, training, and experience.
Classroom Educator Range 2
Range 2 educators play a pivotal role in supporting the school’s mission to enhance student performance and educational outcomes, as outlined in the school’s strategic objectives. They contribute significantly to the formulation and execution of school policies and priorities.
A vital aspect of this role involves increasing the staff's understanding of student learning and high-quality instructional practices, assisting the school in defining exemplary teaching standards.
Expectations for Range 2 educators include:
- Possessing the content knowledge and pedagogical skills to address the diverse needs of all students.
- Demonstrating exemplary teaching practices and mentoring fellow educators in reflective practices to enhance their professional growth.
- Offering expert guidance on content, processes, and strategies that will shape both individual and school-wide professional development.
- Supervising and training student teachers.
- Assisting colleagues in utilizing student performance data to inform instructional strategies aimed at improving student learning outcomes.
Classroom Educator Range 1
The primary focus for Range 1 educators is to further develop their skills and competencies to become effective teaching professionals, supported by structured guidance from more experienced educators. They are responsible for teaching various student groups and ensuring the effective delivery of their educational programs. Range 1 educators operate under general supervision, adhering to established guidelines and documented priorities, and may oversee the training of student teachers.
Range 1 educators are involved in the development of school policies and programs and assist in implementing school priorities. Their focus is on classroom management, subject matter expertise, and teaching methodologies. New educators entering the profession will receive structured support, mentoring, and guidance from more experienced colleagues.
Under supervision, new educators will plan and instruct student groups in one or more subjects and are expected to engage in induction programs and other professional development activities designed to integrate curriculum, assessment, and pedagogy across the school.
Responsibilities of classroom educators may include but are not limited to:
- Direct instruction of student groups and individual learners;
- Contributing to the development, implementation, and assessment of a curriculum area or other educational programs within the institution;
- Performing additional teaching-related and organizational duties as directed by the School Principal;
- Participating in activities such as parent-teacher conferences, staff meetings, and extracurricular events;
- Engaging in non-teaching supervisory responsibilities.
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must be currently registered or eligible for registration with the relevant teaching authority and possess qualifications or demonstrated experience in the specified curriculum areas.
Commitment to Equal Opportunity and Occupational Health and Safety
Individuals seeking part-time employment are encouraged to apply for any teaching position and may request a reduced time fraction, which will be considered on a case-by-case basis, subject to the operational needs of the school.
