Position Overview
Timmons Group is consistently welcoming applications for the role of Field Survey Chief for prospective opportunities within our surveying division.

The Field Survey Chief is tasked with overseeing the daily operations of assigned Survey Instrument Operators to effectively gather and finalize designated engineering and land surveys.

Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

  • Managing daily field crew activities to ensure accurate data collection for boundary surveys, topographical assessments, and construction stakeout projects.
  • Training team members in the operation of total stations, levels, GPS, and data collection devices for efficient survey data acquisition.
  • Setting points on construction stakeout initiatives, including but not limited to curb and gutter, stormwater systems, and utility installations.
  • Conducting routine maintenance and upkeep of surveying instruments.
  • Providing detailed and organized field notes, including necessary sketches.
  • Overseeing the maintenance of surveying equipment, supplies, and vehicles.
Qualifications

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • A high school diploma or GED along with a minimum of five (5) years of field survey experience.
  • Familiarity with Leica Robotic Total Stations, data collectors, and GPS technology is preferred.
  • Experience in DOT transportation surveying is an advantage.
  • The ability to systematically collect field data for various boundary, topographic, design, and construction staking projects.
  • PLS/SI certification is preferred but not mandatory.
  • Competence in computing, processing, and mapping field data will provide opportunities for growth and advancement.
  • AutoCAD experience is a plus.
  • A valid driver's license with a clean driving record is required.
  • Willingness to travel occasionally.
  • Physical capability to carry equipment weighing up to 50 lbs across diverse terrains.
  • Ability to work outdoors year-round, facing seasonal extremes in weather conditions.
