Job Summary:

The Physician Assistant will work as part of the Hospitalist Service team at Thompson Health, providing high-quality patient care and collaborating with hospital staff to ensure excellent patient outcomes.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Attend to newly admitted patients, performing history and physicals, writing orders, and communicating with attending hospitalists.
  • Round on assigned patients, participating in evaluations and treatments as needed.
  • Evaluate patient conditions, requesting changes to routine orders or clarification of orders.
  • Initiate completion of death certificates for hospitalist review and signature.
  • Perform procedures such as ABGs, IV insertions, and NG tube insertions when requested by nursing staff.
  • Maintain accurate medical records and prepare patients for discharge, completing discharge summaries.
  • Participate in quality improvement activities, providing data and documentation as required.
  • Establish and maintain effective communication with hospital staff, nursing staff, and other departments.

Requirements:

  • Graduation from an AMA/AHO-approved school as a Physician Assistant or Certified Nurse Practitioner.
  • Registration to practice in New York State required.
  • Certification by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (if a Physician Assistant).
  • Collaboration agreement with the Director of Hospitalist Service (if a Nurse Practitioner).
  • 2 years of experience in hospital-based medicine and/or family practice, or other suitable experience, preferred.

Certification and Pay:

  • Must successfully complete the F. F. Thompson Hospital Medical Staff credentialing process with membership and privileges in the Department of Medicine (Adjunct Status).
  • $85.00/hour per diem rate.
