Job Summary:

As a Peripherial Vascular Technologist II at Kaiser Permanente, you will conduct non-invasive vascular studies, including ultrasound, and prepare test results. You will also maintain equipment and the vascular database. This role requires general supervision and involves working with patients to explain test procedures and purposes. You will assist physicians in developing new techniques and procedures, as well as consult with them concerning procedures and patient conditions. Additionally, you will follow standard infection control procedures and lift patients as needed.

Key Responsibilities:

Patient Procedures and Activities:
  • Explain test procedures and purposes to patients.
  • Demonstrate equipment for patients.
  • Assist physicians in developing new techniques and procedures.
  • Assist providers in patient examinations and procedures.
  • Consult with providers concerning procedures and patient conditions.
  • Follow standard infection control procedures.
  • Lift patients as needed.
  • Modify treatment techniques that do not require a change in physician orders.
  • Monitor and evaluate test readings during procedures.
  • Observe, monitor, and evaluate patient conditions during and after procedures.
  • Prepare and position patients for diagnostic tests and medical procedures.
  • Respond to emergencies and stat requests.
  • Transport patients to and from procedure areas.
  • Assist physicians during ultrasound examinations.
  • Perform non-invasive peripheral vascular studies.
  • Assist physicians in locating tumors.
  • Perform ultrasound diagnostic procedures.

Laboratories:
  • Develop film and make prints.
  • Clean procedure rooms and work areas.
  • Dispose of laboratory specimens and waste material properly.
  • Sterilize contaminated tubes and materials.
  • Assign identification numbers to specimens.

Records and Patient Information:
  • Schedule patient appointments, operations, and procedures.
  • Record and chart patient data.
  • Interview patients and collect patient data.
  • Take patient medical and prescription histories.
  • Review patient charts to evaluate patients and identify significant conditions.
  • Compile data for Quality Assurance.
  • Complete diagnostic examination requisitions, forms, and records.
  • Prepare exam results for interpretation by physicians.
  • Read and/or interpret tracings and note findings.
  • Read and assess diagnostic test abnormalities.
  • Consult with physicians concerning test results and alert them to positive test results or test abnormalities.
  • Issue reports on findings.

Equipment and Instruments & Materials and Supplies:
  • Ensure equipment is available for procedures and examinations.
  • Calibrate and adjust equipment in preparation for and during procedures.
  • Check emergency equipment.
  • Load paper and tape into computer printers.
  • Prepare and process packs, supplies, equipment, and instruments.
  • Prepare procedure and exam rooms.
  • Restock operating, procedure, cast, and examination rooms.
  • Select and set out appropriate tubes and sterile supplies.
  • Set up instruments and surgical trays.
  • Operate ultrasound equipment, including B-mode and real-time equipment.
  • Operate mobile ultrasound equipment.
  • Maintain sterilized supplies, instruments, and equipment for surgical procedures.
  • Receive, sort, and decontaminate equipment.
  • Soak instruments.
  • Clean and sterilize instruments, supplies, and equipment.
  • Arrange for the repair of equipment.
  • Maintain equipment in good working order.
  • Perform minor adjustments and/or repairs on equipment.
  • Test equipment.
  • Fulfill requests for equipment and supplies.
  • Maintain and order supplies.
  • Dispose of expendable medical supplies and used syringes and contaminated materials.
  • Inventory equipment and supplies.
  • Maintain solutions, chemicals, and automatic equipment.
