Custodian Assistant

Job Summary

We are seeking a reliable and responsible Custodian Assistant to join our team at Framingham Public Schools. The ideal candidate will be a detail-oriented individual with excellent communication skills, able to work independently and as part of a team. The Custodian Assistant will be responsible for maintaining a clean and safe environment in our schools, performing various custodial duties such as sanitizing, cleaning, and dusting furniture and equipment.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform various custodial duties such as sanitizing, cleaning, and dusting furniture and equipment.
• Vacuum and shampoo carpeting.
• Wash windows, mirrors, and other surfaces.
• Clean and wash chalkboards, trays, and erasers.
• Change light bulbs as required.
• Dust and clean furniture, equipment, and other areas.
• Sweep and shovel snow, and apply sand and salt as needed.
• Empty wastebaskets and trash receptacles.
• Set up rooms as required.
• Inspect interior and exterior of buildings for vandalism.
• Report emergencies to senior custodians.
• Work overtime during emergencies or as required.
• Observe all safety rules.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to bend, sit, move, hear and speak. Noise level may be high when operating power equipment. The employee required to work in restricted spaces to include crawling and/or climbing as working at heights. Required to stand, be on feet, and move around for a full work shift. The employee must be able to work using ladders, scaffolding, mechanical lifts and district vehicles. Ability to spend most of the work-day standing, lifting, and walking. Ability to lift up to 60 pounds and move heavier materials using appropriate equipment. While performing the duties of this job, the employee occasionally works in outside weather conditions. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals. It may be expected that the individual could be exposed to blood or other potentially infectious materials or illnesses during the course of their duties. Wearing of protective equipment, such as latex gloves, per OSHA regulations is required.

Reports to
Senior Building Custodians and/or Shift Foreperson. The performance of this job will be evaluated as per the Framingham Custodial Services (Unit C) Contract.
