Position Overview

The Behavioral Intervention Specialist plays a crucial role within our organization by delivering 1:1 support to an assigned client.

Working under the guidance of a Clinical Supervisor and a Board-Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA), Behavioral Intervention Specialists employ Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) techniques to teach essential skills and mitigate challenging behaviors.

This position requires diligent data collection and session documentation to track and evaluate client progress.

Overall Objective

Foster an enriched learning environment by implementing evidence-based interventions within the framework of Applied Behavior Analysis while strictly adhering to the Board Analyst Certification Board (BACB) Code of Ethics.

Key Responsibilities
  • Attend to the fundamental needs of clients (e.g., food, hydration, toileting) during therapy sessions.
  • Maintain a daily needs log throughout each session, including providing snacks and hydration, facilitating changes, and ensuring bathroom access while meticulously tracking opportunities and prompts.
  • Deliver daily session summaries to parents/guardians using the daily needs log.
  • Review the daily schedule for updates and client changes.
  • Log into scheduled sessions in our practice management software and review the Behavior Intervention Plan (BIP) and client updates.
  • Prepare the client's workspace with the necessary materials.
  • Implement client intervention plan goals by thoroughly understanding each target and diligently following delivery instructions.
  • Engage actively with clients by providing frequent Naturalistic Environment Training (NET) opportunities in a playful and interactive manner.
  • Maintain close proximity (3-5 feet) to the client to ensure continuous engagement and prioritize client safety.
  • Seek support, clarification, and modeling from supervisors and fellow Behavioral Intervention Specialists as needed.
  • Collect data on client responses to prompts for all treatment plan items.
  • Document behavioral data as required.
  • Summarize the session as it unfolds and complete final session notes to meet billing standards.
  • Communicate client progress to clinical team members during team meetings or daily data collection and notes.
  • Ensure timely transition of the client to the next session or parent/guardian.
  • Accurate and timely data collection, session notes, and report writing are vital aspects of the role, with strict adherence to all privacy and confidentiality laws, including HIPAA regulations and client confidentiality.
  • Commitment to providing culturally sensitive and competent care.
  • Compliance with all ethical guidelines and standards set forth by the BACB.
  • Accommodate specific requirements, such as autism-specific interventions, depending on the client's unique needs or preferences.

Requirements

High School Diploma or Equivalent.
Successful completion of a TB Test and Live Scan DOJ Background check.
Availability for at least 15 hours per week.

Completion of Registered Behavior Therapist (RBT) Certification (Must enroll in a course and complete it within the first 90 days; we cover the cost of enrolling in the 40-hour online course and reimburse for the exam).

Trained in crisis management procedures (Safety Care Certification; including de-escalation techniques and safety protocols when handling challenging behaviors. We cover the cost of the course and provide all training in clinic)
Trained in First Aid/Basic Life Support and CPR with active Certification (Must enroll in course once RBT Certification is attained; we cover the cost of the course and exam)

Preferred:
Minimum of one year of college experience in psychology, child development, or education.

Preferred:
Enrollment in a two or four-year college program.
Excellent communication skills for effective interaction with colleagues, clinical supervisors, and client families.

Basic & Physical Requirements
Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
Proficiency in lifting and carrying clients using adaptive equipment.
Capability to maintain various postures (kneeling, squatting, crawling, sitting, standing) for extended periods.

Willingness and ability to restrain/hold/transport and employ quick body movements as indicated in the Behavior Intervention Plan when working with children with challenging behavior.

Manual dexterity to perform specific computer and electronic device functions for data collection.
Physical presence at the assigned job location, which may include home, school, and community placements.
Ability to receive detailed information through oral communication.
Visual acuity to read and comprehend written communication through computer, electronic devices, and paper means.
Full attention to the needs and safety of children.
