The Commonwealth of Virginia is seeking a Laboratory Research Technician 2 or Surgical Lab Specialist to contribute to innovative research in the field of cancer immunology. This role is integral to the advancement of scientific knowledge and will be determined based on the candidate's qualifications.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide specialized technical support in laboratory and research methodologies tailored to the needs of Principal Investigators and their teams. Demonstrate proficiency in troubleshooting and problem-solving.
- Assist in the assessment of research techniques and protocols to ensure alignment with established objectives.
- Perform essential laboratory techniques including tissue culture, T lymphocyte culture and stimulation, flow cytometry, PCR, DNA and RNA extractions, ELISA assays, and immunohistochemistry.
- Engage in research utilizing murine models as necessary.
- Support researchers in data manipulation, computation, and analysis using specialized software, and evaluate experimental outcomes through statistical methods.
- Conduct literature reviews and library research to support ongoing projects.
- Assist in the instruction of laboratory academic sessions, emphasizing methods, procedures, and safety protocols.
- Adapt general methods and procedures to meet specific research needs and explain work instructions clearly.
- Participate in training fellow staff members on established procedures.
- Contribute to manuscript preparation and writing.
- Other duties may be assigned as required.
Minimum Qualifications for Laboratory Research Technician 2:
- Education: Associate's degree required; Bachelor's degree in a scientific discipline preferred.
- Experience: Minimum of two years of laboratory experience, which may include academic experience. A Bachelor's degree in a related field may substitute for experience.
- Preferred expertise in areas such as human cellular immunology, flow cytometry, and molecular analyses.
Minimum Qualifications for Surgical Lab Specialist:
- Education: Bachelor's degree required.
- Experience: At least three years of relevant experience; six years of laboratory experience may substitute for the degree.
- Preferred expertise in human cellular immunology and related fields.
