Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Medical Assistant to join our team at the Michigan Institute of Urology. As a Medical Assistant, you will play a vital role in providing exceptional patient care and supporting our urology team.

Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare procedure rooms for local procedures by setting up instrumentation, checking case supplies, and opening sterile instruments/supplies in an aseptic technique.
  • Assist physicians during local procedures, utilizing aseptic technique and demonstrating knowledge of universal precautions and personal protective equipment.
  • Accurately document on procedure-specific memos and use and document on the Electronic Health Record.
  • Mix medication on order of the physician and demonstrate knowledge of universal precautions and personal protective equipment while mixing.
  • Perform injection/installations on order of the physician and accurately draw and process blood specimens.
  • Document in and maintain specimen logs, medication logs, MA lab logs, sterilization logs, and other relevant records.
  • Communicate with patients and physicians/providers and document in the medical record patient medical concerns.
  • Insert/remove urinary catheters and assist with decontamination and processing of procedure instrumentation.
  • Operate the autoclave, including cleaning, sterilization parameters, and maintenance of autoclave records.
  • Wrap and sterilize instruments and related supplies, and use and operate load control products.
  • Assist with room clean-up and removal of soiled instrumentation, supplies, and trash from the procedure room.
  • Clean lab areas, including wiping down furniture/equipment and occasionally mopping floors and emptying trash containers.
  • Clean restrooms, including wiping down the entire toilet, cleaning the bathroom floor, wiping down sinks, and removing objects from the toilet bowl.
  • Operate the Clinitek Machine (urinalysis) and demonstrate knowledge of cold sterilization, including mixing solution, handling solution, solution parameters, and expiration dates.
  • Restock supply cupboards, labs, and rooms as needed and assist in the maintenance of equipment.
  • Transport laboratory specimens, x-ray films, instruments, and/or supplies as needed/requested.
  • Collaborate with orientation of new personnel in the office as requested and/or assigned.
  • Report to the supervisor when the office schedule is finished to assist office personnel in other areas.
  • May rotate within all MIU offices as the patient advocate notifies physician/supervisor of observed condition or change in condition of the patient to provide continuity of patient care.
  • Maintain confidentiality of patient records and accountability for identifying self-deficits and updating knowledge and skills required to perform responsibilities.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to the vision, mission, and goals of the Michigan Institute of Urology through application of Continuous Quality Improvement.
Requirements
  • High School graduate or GED; Medical Assistant certificate required.
  • 1 year of medical assistant office experience demonstrating competency is preferred.
  • None.
  • Medical Assistant preferred.
  • Demonstrates organization, self-motivation, good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Must have basic computer knowledge and basic computer skills.
