Job Description

Job Summary: S.J. Louis Construction is seeking a highly skilled Safety Manager to join our team. As a key member of our safety department, you will be responsible for developing and implementing effective safety programs to ensure a safe working environment for our employees and subcontractors.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the planning, administration, implementation, and enforcement of the Company's Safety Programs to control risks and losses.
  • Implement job-specific requirements relating to safety, hazard analysis, and emergency action plans.
  • Facilitate drug and alcohol testing in accordance with company, federal, and state requirements.
  • Conduct regular safety audits and inspections of assigned construction projects and other onsite personnel, identifying hazardous conditions and reporting findings to the Director of Safety.
  • Ensure safety issues are resolved in a timely manner.
  • Facilitate safety and loss control training for supervisors, employees, and subcontractors, as required by Company Policy, Outside Regulatory Agencies, or Contract Specifications.
  • Organize and maintain required record keeping of site safety activities, employee training, and certifications.
  • Conduct accident/incident investigations as needed, identifying root cause(s) and recommending corrective action measures.
  • Ensure accident/incident reporting procedures and medical treatment/first aid plans are followed.
  • Prepare and submit required reporting to the Director of Safety and Risk Management.
  • Report observations or violations to the Director of Safety and Risk Management for enforcement.
  • Record hazards and personnel exposure occurrences as required.
  • Provide understanding and interpretations of local, provincial, and federal regulations and statutes relative to environmental safety, employee safety, and Workers' Compensation to ensure the Company's compliance.
  • Assist in maintaining positive and productive relationships and communication with employees, outside agencies, or organizations as appropriate.
  • Frequent travel required - up to 80% - 100%.

Requirements:

  • Experience in Excavation and Trenching Safety a Must.
  • Confined space experience required.
  • Thorough knowledge of 29 CFR 1926.
  • A history of developing effective Safety initiatives that reduce accidents/incidents and heighten Safety awareness among employees.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Bilingual in Spanish is a plus.
  • Valid driver's license with satisfactory driving record.
  • Ability to travel to jobsites throughout the United States - up to 80% - 100%.
