The Surgical Services Procedure Unit at UNC REX is a dynamic 16-bay facility that delivers preoperative and postoperative care to patients recovering from anesthesia. Our cases encompass various specialties, including ophthalmology, urology, gynecology, and general surgery. In this fast-paced setting, our staff collaborates closely with a skilled multidisciplinary team.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Assist healthcare professionals during routine examinations and procedures, including the procurement of necessary equipment and supplies.
2. Diligently review patient care documentation, noting any significant changes in patient conditions, and promptly report these to a registered nurse or physician.
3. Perform a variety of clerical duties, such as organizing and prioritizing tasks, welcoming and directing visitors, researching information for healthcare providers, reviewing orders for accuracy, transcribing physician orders, and maintaining medical records. Conduct routine quality assurance checks, safety audits, and inventory management.
4. Provide clinical support by maintaining cleanliness in work areas, troubleshooting equipment issues, changing linens, checking supply levels, restocking items, transporting patients and specimens, and assisting in the onboarding of new staff and students.
5. Deliver direct personal care to patients as outlined in their care plans, including bathing, dressing, feeding, and assisting with mobility. Measure and document vital signs, height, and weight. Responsibilities may also include specimen collection, basic wound care, and patient education.
6. Reinforce educational information provided to patients by registered nurses or physicians and document patient comprehension of instructions. Distribute educational materials as requested by patients or healthcare providers.
Additional Information
Education Requirements:
● High School Diploma or equivalent (GED)
Licensure/Certification Requirements:
● Certified as a Nursing Assistant I by the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services
● Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
Professional Experience Requirements:
● Minimum of six (6) months of experience in clerical or customer service roles.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
● Proficiency in verbal and written English. Ability to develop computer skills if necessary.
