Radiation Therapy Specialist I

Overview:

The Radiation Therapy Specialist I is responsible for delivering high-quality therapeutic and patient care services in accordance with physician directives.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborates with physicians and dosimetrists to determine and implement effective patient treatment plans.
  • Continuously monitors and documents patient conditions, promptly reporting any adverse reactions.
  • Educates and assesses patients following established departmental protocols.
  • Accurately positions patients and selects appropriate anatomic and technical parameters.
  • Ensures proper functioning of equipment, including linear accelerators, through regular checks and adjustments.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned.

Educational Requirements:

  • Must be a graduate of a CAHEA accredited School of Radiation Therapy Technology or be registry eligible.

Certification Requirements:

  • Must hold a Board Certification as a Registered Radiation Therapist from the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT), R.T.(R)(T)(ARRT) in good standing.
  • Current state licensure is required if mandated by law.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification for Healthcare Providers from the American Heart Association (AHA) is necessary.

Skills and Competencies:

  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with patients experiencing physical and emotional stress.
  • Proficient in utilizing computer programs for data entry and information management.

Experience Requirements:

  • Familiarity with radiation oncology-specific electronic medical records and verification systems is preferred.
  • Experience with external radiation therapy techniques, including IMRT, IGRT, and CT simulation is advantageous.

Physical Demands:

  • Ability to perform duties while walking, standing, stooping, reaching, and lifting.
  • Must be capable of lifting materials weighing up to 35 lbs.
  • Ability to push or pull over 100 lbs.
  • Dexterity to perform computer functions is required.
  • Must adhere to Safe Operating Procedures for x-ray generating equipment.
  • Flexibility in working hours is essential.
  • Availability to take on-call shifts during weekdays and weekends as per a rotational schedule.
  • Willingness to assist at other facilities when necessary.

Personal Protective Equipment:

  • Adheres to standard precautions and utilizes personal protective equipment as required.
