Custodian - Marine Research Center

This position is responsible for maintaining the cleanliness and organization of assigned buildings and facilities within the Marine Research Center. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring that all areas are clean, safe, and well-maintained, and will participate in other areas of Ocean Enterprise operations as directed.
Key Responsibilities- Cleaning and Maintenance: Responsible for cleaning assigned buildings, including sweeping, mopping, and cleaning floors, as well as washing windows, walls, vents, and glass doors. Empties trash cans and sets up for events and cleans up afterwards.
- Dusting and Vacuuming: Dusts general areas, vacuums rooms, replenishes supplies, and cleans drinking fountains and restrooms. Cleans, sweeps, and mops entrances, outside plazas, and walks, as applicable.
- Equipment Maintenance: Assists in the maintenance and care of custodial and event services equipment and furnishings, such as vacuum cleaners, buffing machines, pressure washers, tables, chairs, tents, podiums, and other related equipment and furnishings.
- Call-out Responsibilities: Participates in call-out responsibilities and may require night shift responsibilities and weekend work. Performs additional duties as assigned.
- Reporting and Communication: Reports damaged structures and equipment to supervisor. Serves as a member of the Ocean Enterprise Essential Personnel and participates in pre-emergency preparations and post-emergency recovery efforts.
- Education: High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
- Experience: One year of custodial or related experience.
- License: Driver's License required. Must possess or be able to possess a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) card for access to the Port of Gulfport.
- Skills and Abilities: Knowledge of University policies and procedures, professional standards, and regulations. Knowledge of cleaning techniques and procedures, and the use of custodial materials, tools, equipment, and chemicals. Skilled in managing one's own time while completing assignments accurately and with attention to detail. Ability to listen to, understand, and follow instructions. Ability to establish and maintain a good rapport with university faculty and staff, students, and the general public. Ability to work successfully as a member of a team and independently with moderate supervision. Ability to work evenings, nights, and weekends as necessary. Ability to read and understand instruction manuals and chemical labels. Ability to operate automatic floor scrubbers and buffers. Ability to perform hard floor care to include applying and removing stripper and applying multiple coats of floor wax.
