About the Job:
We are seeking an experienced Asphalt Materials Specialist to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for evaluating asphalt and component materials for specification compliance and product development/enhancement for bituminous materials primarily utilized in the asphalt paving industry.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Create and evaluate hot mix, cold mix, and pavement preservation mixture designs and physical properties of construction materials.
- Perform routine construction materials testing in the field and laboratory settings.
- Develop expertise in chip seals, slurry seals, micro-surfacing, and other pavement preservation applications.
- Maintain rigorous time management and organizational skills to meet deadlines in a dynamic environment.
- Assume ownership and accountability for ensuring the accuracy and cleanliness of work.
- Communicate regularly with the Technical Director and Group Leader about lab work status.
- Verify the accuracy of lab data and re-evaluate any questionable results promptly.
- Maintain comprehensive and up-to-date lab notebooks that meet all regulatory and company standards.
- Ensure that lab equipment is kept clean, calibrated, and operational.
- Work with the mix design team to manage lab inventory to avoid shortages and maintain efficient lab operations.
- Conduct monthly inventory assessments to ensure optimal resource management.
- Participate in professional development programs to enhance technical and leadership skills.
- Adhere strictly to Ergon Asphalt & Emulsion Inc.'s Environmental Health & Safety rules and policies.
- Engage in ongoing education about ASTM, AASHTO, and other applicable testing requirements and standards.
- Alert the Group Leader immediately of any safety concerns or equipment malfunctions.
- Obtain job specific compliance certifications related to asphalt material handling within the first year of employment.
Requirements:
- High School Diploma, Technical College Degree Preferred
- Previous experience in a similar role
- Proficient in Microsoft Office; Excel, Word, and Outlook
Estimated Salary: $60,000 - $80,000 per year.
