POSITION SUMMARY:
Under the guidance of the Assistant Director of Public Works, the Solid Waste Supervisor is responsible for overseeing personnel involved in refuse collection and disposal activities at the landfill. This role ensures that daily operations comply with all relevant regulations and ordinances.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Supervise refuse collection and landfill disposal operations to guarantee adherence to federal, state, and local regulations.
2. Generate reports for regulatory agencies on a regular basis and maintain daily logs for landfill activities.
3. Plan work schedules for crews, evaluate staff performance, and coordinate training initiatives.
4. Oversee the maintenance and repair of landfill equipment and facilities, ensuring operational efficiency.
5. Conduct waste inspections and enforce regulations against illegal dumping.
6. Prepare and review various reports and records, including personnel and accident reports.
7. Respond to customer inquiries and complaints, collaborating with other city departments as necessary.

ADDITIONAL DUTIES:
1. Adjust work methods to enhance efficiency and effectiveness.
2. Assist in budget preparation and monitor supply requisitions.
3. Handle emergency calls and take appropriate actions.

WORKING CONDITIONS:
This position requires physical stamina, including the ability to lift and carry heavy equipment. The incumbent may work outdoors in various weather conditions and may be exposed to hazardous materials.

QUALIFICATIONS:
1. A combination of education and experience that provides the necessary knowledge and skills for a Solid Waste Supervisor.
2. A minimum of four years of experience in refuse collection or disposal, with some supervisory experience preferred.
3. Valid Class B driver's license and necessary certifications to operate city vehicles.

SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE:
1. Understanding of refuse collection and landfill operations, including heavy equipment.
2. Ability to supervise and train staff effectively.
3. Strong organizational and communication skills, both written and verbal.
4. Knowledge of safety practices and regulations related to solid waste management.
