Samaritan Healthcare is seeking a Medical Laboratory Technologist to become a vital part of our team. This role involves the expert application of medical technology principles and practices to deliver accurate results that assist healthcare professionals in diagnosing and treating patients. The individual will report directly to the Laboratory Director and will work closely with both patients and hospital personnel to foster a welcoming and collaborative environment.

Qualifications:

  1. Associate's degree in chemical, physical, or biological sciences with a minimum of one (1) year of clinical internship experience.
  2. National certification as a Medical Technologist (MT) from a recognized body (ASCP or equivalent).
  3. Certification as a Medical Assistant Phlebotomist in Washington State.
  4. Preferred: Three (3) to five (5) years of experience in a hospital setting.
  5. One (1) year of formal training in the medical technology field.
  6. Current CPR certification at the Healthcare Provider level.
Key Responsibilities:
  1. Participate in various laboratory sections as assigned, conducting routine laboratory tests; this includes regular weekend rotations and may involve occasional evening or night shifts as necessary.
    1. Conduct qualitative and quantitative analyses in Blood Bank, Chemistry, Hematology, Coagulation, Urinalysis, Serology, and/or Microbiology to provide essential data for disease diagnosis and treatment.
    2. Ensure complete and accurate documentation in compliance with regulatory standards and specific laboratory protocols.
    3. Perform Quality Control checks as required and document findings appropriately.
    4. Verify that specimen labels are clear and correctly matched to patient identities.
    5. Accurately log specimen results into the Laboratory Information System (LIS) with necessary comments.
    6. Contribute to maintaining a clean and organized Clinical Laboratory environment.
    7. Support quality assurance and workflow in Hematology, Chemistry, Coagulation, Urinalysis, Blood Bank, and/or Microbiology by adhering to quality control protocols and maintaining equipment.
    8. Assist in training and supervising students, new medical technologists, and laboratory staff.
    9. Follow departmental procedures for the verification and documentation of critical values.
    10. Monitor and maintain laboratory equipment and supplies, reporting any issues to the lead Technologist or Laboratory Director.
    11. Utilize effective time management skills to prioritize tasks and deliver optimal service.
    12. Adhere to CLIA/CAP standards in all laboratory practices.
    13. Comply with established policies and procedures.
  2. Register patients and perform venipuncture as required.
  3. Fulfill the duties of Laboratory Clerk/Assistant as needed.
  4. Maintain an adequate inventory of laboratory supplies.
  5. Engage in professional development through workshops and seminars to stay updated on industry trends.
  6. Follow safety protocols to prevent injuries and ensure a secure working environment.
  7. Comply with organizational policies and labor agreements.
  8. Maintain courteous and efficient interactions with team members and support staff.
  9. Exhibit professionalism in conduct and appearance while representing the organization.
  10. Complete additional responsibilities as assigned by management.
