Job Summary:
Washington University in St. Louis seeks an Ophthalmic Assistant to provide administrative and technical support to an ophthalmologist in a clinical setting. The successful candidate will maintain patient records, schedule appointments, and assist with the clinical workup of patients.
Key Responsibilities:
- Maintain patient records and schedules appointments in IDX.
- Answer phones, greet patients, verify correct billing information, and prepare charts for office visits.
- Assist with the clinical workup of patients, including visual acuity, applanation pressures, history, keratometry, autorefraction, color vision, stereopsis, and EYESYS.
- Instruct patients in the proper care and insertion/removal of contact lenses.
- Modify and/or polish contacts.
- Maintain inventory of materials and clean instruments.
- Maintain examination rooms and supplies.
Working Conditions:
Normal office environment.
Physical Effort:
Typically sitting at a desk or table.
Equipment:
Office equipment.
Education and Experience:
High school diploma or equivalent high school certification or combination of education and/or experience.
Certifications:
Basic Life Support - American Heart Association, Basic Life Support - American Red Cross, Basic Life Support - CPR St Louis.
Work Experience:
Medical Office Setting (2 Years).
Skills:
Communication, Computer Literacy, Medical Terminology, Organizational Savvy, Patient Care.
