This role is positioned within the senior management tier, focusing on the operations of Managing General Agent (MGA) underwriting. The incumbent will engage in either specialized underwriting and risk assessment or in initiatives aimed at enhancing the efficiency of underwriting processes. A key responsibility will involve developing metrics and analyzing data to provide insights that influence profitability trends.
Work Environment:
This position offers flexibility, requiring a minimum of 10 days per month in the office, with options for remote work. Internal candidates are encouraged to explore this opportunity, and relocation assistance is available for qualified individuals.
Key Responsibilities:
Risk Assessment (70%):
- Conduct thorough evaluations of complex risks associated with third-party insurance carriers, focusing on risk characteristics and trends to determine appropriate coverage and pricing.
- Utilize insights from risk analysis to guide pricing strategies, coverage options, and terms and conditions.
- Analyze claims and loss history to inform decisions on individual accounts and broader program strategies.
Binding Authority Research and Best Practices (20%):
- Provide ongoing underwriting performance insights to the management team, acting as a key resource for data integration and interpretation.
- Leverage expertise in surplus lines and market trends to influence business strategies and outcomes.
- Collaborate with divisional leadership to create management reports and presentations that drive decision-making.
Industry Research & Relationship Management (10%):
- Foster positive relationships with colleagues, agents, and carriers, while staying informed about industry trends and competitor activities.
- Serve as a resource for field personnel and sales management, utilizing industry connections to propose innovative product ideas.
Qualifications:
- Experience in underwriting specialty lines or commercial insurance.
- Strong understanding of surplus and specialty insurance markets.
- Proven experience with excess and surplus lines.
- Familiarity with agency management systems.
