Job Summary

This position is part of the Maintenance team at GAF. The primary responsibility of a Maintenance Technician is to evaluate, repair, and replace materials, products, and components for conformance to specifications.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform all work in a safe and efficient manner, following all safety procedures.
  • Participate in continuing training and maintain a neat and orderly work area.
  • Detect and report faulty operation, defective material, and equipment, and other unusual conditions to teammates and appropriate personnel.
  • Collaborate with personnel to transmit and exchange information pertinent to work-related activities.
  • Operate machines and equipment in compliance with Standard Operating Procedure.
  • Communicate quality and machine problems to supervisor, team members, and maintenance.
  • Troubleshoot and repair facility equipment, ensuring operational downtime is minimized.
  • Conduct Preventative Maintenance procedures to ensure the essential care, maintenance, and operation of equipment.
  • Record essential data onto Preventative Maintenance work orders and Down Day work orders.
  • Verify component information, specifications, and location before installation.
  • Read instructions, prints, manuals, and written procedural instructions.
  • Safely and professionally utilize hand tools, power tools, shop equipment, electrical instrumentation, and forklift.
  • Work on pipe systems, repairing, modifying, and installing systems.
  • Perform all phases of welding, including MIG, TIG, and Rod.
  • Use cutting torch and bronze with a torch.
  • Perform millwright work, aligning equipment, checking installation for square and belt tension.
  • Remove and install bearings and perform all maintenance work required on bearings.
  • Work with predictive technologies to improve operations.
  • Work with Operations to ensure equipment is tested and working safely and effectively.
  • Maintain tools and test equipment to ensure plant electrical systems are functioning properly.
  • Assist with maintaining accurate records, including Maximo, storeroom, calibration, and drawings.
  • Assist supervision in designing new equipment to enhance plant electrical systems.
  • Complete Preventative Maintenance and Down Day work orders with precision.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, and use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls. The employee frequently is required to talk or hear. The employee is required to reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, or crouch, climb industrial ladders and steps, twist, and bend.

The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

Requirements
  • High School diploma or equivalent (advanced degree preferred)
  • 3 or more years of demonstrated experience in an Industrial Maintenance Position
  • Certificate or higher degree in Industrial Maintenance or related field coupled with 1 or more years of Maintenance experience in an Industrial setting
  • 5 or more years of experience in an Operator role at GAF AND actively pursuing Certificate or higher degree in Industrial Maintenance or related field
