Overview:


The Emergency Care Technician plays a vital role within the healthcare team, providing essential support in the comprehensive care of patients, under the guidance of a Registered Nurse and Physician.


Key Responsibilities:

Engages with patients in a respectful and supportive manner suitable for a clinical environment, ensuring a positive service experience.

Prepares and assists patients for medical evaluations and treatments:

a. Supplies clean gowns and blankets as necessary.

b. Positions patients correctly for various procedures.

c. Gathers necessary supplies and equipment for patient care.

d. Keeps treatment areas clean and organized.

e. Disposes of soiled linens and waste in designated receptacles.

f. Upholds patient privacy and dignity at all times.

g. Adheres to infection control protocols.

h. Communicates significant observations to nursing and medical staff.

Assists in executing the following patient-related tasks under the supervision of a Registered Nurse or Physician:

a. Application of behavioral restraints (with valid physician order).

b. Monitoring vital signs and applying necessary equipment.

c. Administering heat and cold treatments.

d. Application of orthopedic devices and supportive materials such as splints and bandages.

e. Assisting with simple dressing changes.

f. Supporting pelvic examinations (for female Emergency Technicians only).

g. Aiding in suturing procedures.

h. Performing Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR).

i. Documenting procedures, including dressing applications and vital signs.

j. Fitting crutches and instructing patients on their use.

k. Conducting Electrocardiograms (EKGs).

l. Measuring and recording patient intake and output.

m. Applying orthopedic wraps and immobilizers.

n. Providing skin, hair, and oral care.

o. Collecting specimens.

p. Performing oral suctioning.

q. Assisting in the transfer and transport of patients.

r. Monitoring and recording vital signs.

s. Preparing wounds for treatment.

Manages and organizes supplies from Central Service and the Supply Room according to established protocols:

a. Maintains adequate stock levels of departmental supplies.

b. Practices cost-effective measures.

c. Orders specialized orthopedic supplies and non-stock items as required.

d. Ensures treatment areas are stocked with necessary supplies and clean linens.

e. Delivers instruments and equipment for reprocessing.

f. Ensures proper storage and functioning of departmental equipment.

g. Coordinates repairs for damaged equipment.

h. Completes daily supply system reconciliations.

Completes all required documentation accurately.

Maintains certifications in EMT/CNA, BLS, DAB, and other relevant training.

Assists in onboarding new staff members.

Participates in clinical observation of EMT students.

Maintains confidentiality regarding all patient and hospital communications and documentation.

Promotes teamwork by contributing to shared goals and responsibilities.

Demonstrates compassion and care through all interactions, recognizing the dignity and worth of patients, families, and colleagues.

Adheres to departmental and healthcare facility policies regarding scheduling, overtime, and time off.

Punctually attends shifts, takes appropriate breaks, and utilizes sick leave responsibly.

Qualifications:

Experience:
Preferred experience includes DAB, 12 lead EKG, and orthopedic procedures.

2 years of current Emergency Care Technician experience is preferred.

Certifications/Licensure:
Current EMT1 certification is preferred.

CNA certification is preferred.

Basic Life Support (CPR) certification for Healthcare Providers.

Skills, Abilities & Knowledge:
Proficient in computerized documentation systems.
