Overview: A Safety and Security Specialist is responsible for ensuring a secure and safe environment for patients, visitors, medical personnel, and staff, while also safeguarding the facilities and assets of Covenant Health in a professional and respectful manner.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Uphold and advocate for the mission and values of Covenant Health Ministry.
  • Conduct thorough patrols of all facilities, grounds, and off-site locations.
  • Assist staff in the safe management of mental and behavioral health patients, including appropriate intervention during crises.
  • Monitor employee parking areas to ensure the safety of all individuals.
  • Document all activities, including patrols, in the Security Log and prepare incident reports as necessary.
  • Respond to emergencies, including various codes and service requests, within the scope of security duties.
  • Facilitate access for authorized personnel to restricted areas of the facility.
  • Assist in the respectful transportation of deceased individuals to the morgue, ensuring proper authorization and documentation.
  • Maintain communication through two-way radios and respond to requests from the switchboard on behalf of patients and staff.
  • Provide escort services to employees, patients, and visitors upon request.
  • Act promptly and professionally in emergency situations, including drills and actual emergencies.
  • Ensure confidentiality regarding sensitive information related to management and patient care.
  • Foster positive relationships with employees, management, media, and the public.
  • Exercise care in the use of equipment and maintain organized workspaces.
  • Manage patient valuables and lost and found items according to established procedures.
  • Handle items of potential evidentiary value with proper documentation and chain of custody.
  • Perform additional duties as required by the role.

Qualifications:

  • Ability to fulfill all essential duties and responsibilities outlined above.
  • Availability to work various shifts, including weekends and holidays, as needed.
  • Proficient in computer usage and Microsoft applications; strong customer service skills are preferred.
  • Possession of a valid driver's license and a clean driving record.
  • Successful completion of a criminal background check with no disqualifying offenses.
  • Ability to obtain necessary certifications for issued equipment.

Education and Experience:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent is strongly preferred.
  • Post-secondary education is a plus.
  • Prior experience in security, law enforcement, or military service is advantageous.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

Physical Requirements:

Candidates must possess the physical and mental capabilities to perform the tasks associated with this position, which may include sitting, standing, walking, bending, and lifting up to 50 pounds.
