This role is primarily accountable for overseeing discipline resources to achieve departmental objectives. It plays a crucial role in enhancing employee satisfaction, effectiveness, and the quality and punctuality of deliverables within the discipline.
The ideal candidate will be a Licensed Professional Surveyor, taking on the responsibilities of a Survey Discipline Leader. This individual will collaborate closely with sector leaders in Buildings, Infrastructure, and Geospatial to ensure that the organization maintains an optimal workforce equipped with the necessary skills for global project staffing. The Survey Discipline Leader will be tasked with recruiting, training, coaching, mentoring, and supervising survey Team Leaders. Furthermore, they will formulate team objectives and frameworks that align with corporate goals, identify opportunities for cost reduction, manage project finances proficiently, and shape discipline strategies.
Key Responsibilities:
- Recruit, train, coach, mentor, and supervise survey Team Leaders.
- Establish team objectives and frameworks that align with corporate vision and goals.
- Identify cost-saving opportunities and manage project finances effectively.
- Develop market strategies, gaining practical experience in brand positioning.
- Achieve annual market objectives aligned with vision, strategy, structure, and staffing.
- Delegate tasks and responsibilities to team members.
- Provide guidance and support to team members throughout project lifecycles.
- Oversee Survey, GIS, mobile lidar, and UAS Team Leaders across the nation.
- Manage a diverse team of over 125 technical experts, including land surveyors, GIS technicians, mobile lidar teams, and unmanned aerial systems teams.
- Customize teams to meet clients' specific needs, ensuring projects are completed on schedule and within budget.
- Ensure the quality of deliverables and implement standard operating procedures.
- Engage in project management, including developing project plans, budgeting, scheduling, implementing QA/QC measures, creating proposals, and maintaining client relations.
- Experience in geodetic leveling, topographic, hydrographic, cadastral/boundary, subsurface utility engineering, deformation monitoring, as well as terrestrial, mobile, UAS, and airborne Lidar.
- Oversee technology deployment, implementation, and deliverable development.
- Manage equipment and fleet budgets.
- Collaborate with leading geospatial hardware and software manufacturers to ensure the organization remains at the forefront of geospatial technology.
- Safely and effectively coordinate projects in complex field environments.
- Manage discipline-wide KPIs, including net revenue, utilization, and budget variance.
Qualifications:
- Must be a licensed professional surveyor.
- Demonstrated experience in surveying and project management.
- Strong leadership and team management capabilities.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects concurrently.
- Proficiency in relevant surveying technologies and software.
- Must possess a BA/BS and eight (8) years of related experience, MA/MS and six (6) years of related experience, or 12 years of related experience.
- Must be mentally and physically capable of performing all essential duties required of the position.
- Must exhibit a proactive management approach.
- Must possess above-average verbal and written communication skills for both internal and external interactions.
- Must demonstrate leadership ability (directing, delegating, and coaching).
- Must be proficient in Microsoft Office suite.
- Must be able to manage multiple, competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Must be able to analyze and evaluate multiple project components, schedules, and budgets.
- Must be able to establish and maintain rapport with clients, vendors, management, and associates.
- Must possess negotiation, conflict management, and problem-solving skills.
- Must possess above-average facilitation and/or meeting skills.
