Sentara is in search of a dedicated cyber security expert to become a part of our team as a Lead Cyber Privacy Governance Specialist.

This role is fully remote but candidates must reside in or be willing to relocate to one of the specified states.

Key Responsibilities

The Lead Cyber Privacy Governance Specialist will serve as a subject matter expert in information privacy, tasked with spearheading the execution and management of cyber privacy initiatives. This role involves identifying emerging trends in privacy technology, understanding regulatory and compliance obligations, and addressing privacy requirements to cultivate a unified privacy strategy for Sentara Health.

Reporting to the Senior Manager of Cyber & Privacy Governance, the incumbent will pinpoint potential privacy vulnerabilities and propose controls to mitigate risks. This includes evaluating privacy policies, procedures, and operations to ensure compliance with regulations safeguarding personal and sensitive information. The Specialist will also act as a consultant to senior management on privacy policy and strategic planning matters.

Collaboration is key, as the selected candidate will coordinate with departmental teams, develop training materials, and prepare presentations for the Cyber Security Training & Awareness Enterprise Program, overseen by the Senior Manager of Cyber & Privacy Governance. Additionally, this role will support the initiatives and priorities of the Enterprise Chief Privacy Office.

Daily Operational Duties:

The following tasks are typically performed by the incumbent, although other related duties may also be assigned:

  • Analyze and formulate policies and procedures concerning information privacy for Sentara Health and its stakeholders.
  • Provide insights into strategic decisions impacting the Cyber Security and Chief Privacy Office.

Qualifications:

Education and Experience: A Bachelor's degree in Data Communications, Computer Science, Information Systems, Network Engineering, Information Privacy, Privacy Law, or a related field is preferred.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • CIPT Certification
  • Experience in translating regulatory requirements (e.g., GDPR, CCPA/CPRA) into actionable specifications.
  • Familiarity with Privacy by Design and security standards.
  • Other privacy certifications such as CIPP/E, CIPM, or privacy engineering credentials.
  • Knowledge of cloud computing and infrastructure, particularly Azure.

Five years of professional experience in privacy, legal, technology, compliance, or information security, with at least two years in the healthcare sector focusing on information privacy or security projects.

Knowledge Base:

  • Understanding of privacy risk concepts and the interplay between business needs and privacy regulations.
  • Strategic and tactical planning capabilities.
  • Applicable security policies and practices.
  • Knowledge of Personally Identifiable Information (PII) management and privacy threat modeling.
  • Effective communication principles.
  • Incident response processes from a privacy perspective.
  • Privacy and data security laws.
  • Curriculum development and training techniques.
  • Research and report preparation methodologies.
